Hello everyone!
Do you know about the four seasons in Japan?
The four seasons in Japan have their own meaning and are different from those in other countries.
We would like you to get to know the four seasons unique to Japan and introduce them in this article.
Please consider moving or travelling to Japan at the right time of year.
Japan's four seasons - spring
Spring in Japan is the time of year when the country's many colourful flowers, such as plum blossoms, cherry blossoms, azaleas and violets, are in full bloom. The mild climate makes it an easy time to visit, and it is a season that many people look forward to. On the other hand, the weather is changeable and it is easy to fall ill.
Characteristics of spring
The spring season is as pleasant as autumn, and is a time for enjoying the Japanese spring tradition of ‘hanami’ (flower viewing).

Cherry blossoms, violets, camellias.
According to the JMA's definition, spring in Japan is from March to May, and from the vernal equinox on 21 March, the weather gradually becomes less cold and more pleasant. However, it is important to note that high and low pressure alternates over Japan, causing strong winds and rain to blow suddenly.
Spring in Japan is also characterised by high levels of pollen. Japan has a very large number of cedar and cypress trees, which release pollen from March to May. People who are allergic to pollen should take adequate precautions.
Spring attractions
Spring in Japan, when the cold weather eases, is the perfect holiday season. Good weather makes camping and hiking enjoyable, and the Golden Week holiday in late April/early May is a great time to get away from it all.
Spring is the season for wild vegetables such as bamboo shoots, cod sprouts and butterbur sprouts. Tempura of wild vegetables is a dish that can only be enjoyed in springtime Japan. Seafood such as clams and clams are also in season and are excellent in soups and takikomi-gohan.
Spring events
Cherry blossom viewing is one of the most popular spring events in Japan. You can enjoy Japanese spring to the full by laying out leisure seats in a park or open space with beautiful cherry blossoms, eating a packed lunch and drinking sake. Another popular style of hanami is to walk along the tree-lined avenues and enjoy the cherry blossoms while looking at them slowly.
Other events include Momo-no-Sekku (Peach Festival), when dolls are displayed to pray for the growth of girls, and Tango-no-Sekku (Boys' Festival), when carp streamers and helmets are displayed to pray for the growth of boys.
